CAYENNE DOUGLASS has had work developed and/or produced at Ensemble Studio Theatre, Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Theatre Masters, Fresh Ink Theatre, New Perspectives Theatre Company, Dixon Place, The Tank, Letter of Marque, Clutch Productions, Company One, City Theatre Miami, FEAST: A Performance Series, and Manhattan Repertory Theatre.

Over three years, The Kennedy Center has recognized four plays for The Gary Garrison National 10-Minute play Award, one play for The John Cauble One Act Award, and three awards for her full length play, Maiden Voyage. Additionally, Maiden Voyage was a Bay Area Finalist in 2021, and received Honorable Mention for the Jane Chambers Prize for Feminist Playwriting in 2022. In March 2024 Cayenne will mount a full production of this play with director Alex Keegan. 

Cayenne has participated in The First Stage Residency through The Drama League, The Barn Arts Residency, and The Emerging Artists Residency at Tofte Lake. She is an alum of The Living Room Theatre Lab, New Perspectives Women's Work Lab, The BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Librettist Workshop and Composer Lyricist Workshop, Company One Theatre’s Volt Lab, The Exquisite Corpse Company Spring Writers Lab, and Letter of Marque Theatre Playwrights' Lab.

She has been a semi-finalist for The O'Neill Playwrights' Conference, and a finalist for The Farm Collaboration Project, and The Playwrights’ Center Core Apprenticeship Programs (three years in a row!)

Recently Cayenne was awarded an Alfred P. Sloan New Play Commission through Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Creative Engagement Grant and The SU-CASA Grant to teach playwriting to senior citizens. 

Cayenne has been published by Smith & Kraus in 3 monologue anthologies. Her short play Variable Rates of Kindness was published by Concord Theatricals in Theatre Masters’ Take Ten Anthology 2020.

 

She holds an MFA in Playwriting from Boston University.
